KIA Australian Open Garden Square Stage

Project Overview

Set within the iconic grounds of Melbourne Park, this project involved certifying a large temporary structure built for a major sporting event. The structure featured a fabric-covered truss roof and an extensive raised deck system supporting the space above. With large crowds expected, every part of the build had to be engineered to handle the loads, the weather and the demands of a busy live event. Brushwood's role was to check the design and construction at each stage, giving councils, organisers and the public confidence that the structure was safe to use.

Our Scope

  • Reviewed the engineering design of the structure, confirming it could safely handle wind, weight and everyday use.
  • Checked the build against national safety standards, covering the timber and aluminium framing through to the scaffold deck below.
  • Carried out an on-site inspection once construction was complete, confirming the framing, bracing, ballast and connections were sound.
  • Issued certification confirming the structure met all required safety standards, satisfying council requirements before the event could proceed.
