QCB Brisbane Remedial Works

Project Overview

This project involved certifying two separate remedial scopes at a multi-storey mixed-use commercial tower housing professional firms, medical suites and a bank branch. The first scope covered remediation of an existing braced cantilevered steel awning over the street frontage, including structural repairs and the design and construction of new members forming the revised façade. The second covered new reinforced concrete piles and footings, along with a core-filled block wall, installed to support a proposed staircase. Given the building's occupied commercial use and street-level exposure, both scopes needed rigorous design verification and post-installation inspection. Brushwood's role was to certify the design and completed installation for both scopes, giving the building certifier, owner and contractor confidence the works were sound and compliant.

Our Scope

  • Certified the structural design of the remedial awning works, including repairs to the existing steel members and the design of new steel members forming the revised façade structure.
  • Carried out on-site inspections of the completed awning remediation and the new piles, footings and block wall, checking framing, bracing, fixings and connections.
  • Assessed the works against the relevant Australian Standards covering structural actions and steel, concrete and timber structures.
